Public Affairs (PA) Manager supports the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in interfacing with community and other stakeholders and promotes public awareness, understanding, and support of the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Project. The PA Manager serves as the primary spokesperson for the Technical Assistance Contractor in media inquiries, and handles public inquiries and emergency communications as requested by DOE.

Job Description

Duties and responsibilities consist of but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists DOE in responding to DOE headquarters and Environmental Management Consolidated Business Center requests.
  • Supports DOE in preparing for public/stakeholder meetings, including renting meeting rooms and placing announcements in local papers, as needed.
  • Updates the Public Participation Plan, as necessary, writes articles for publication in newsletters and on websites, coordinates capture of raw video footage of Moab Project activities, coordinates site tours, and prepares fact sheets and press releases.
  • Maintains and updates the project website, and ensures the Moab Project public reading room is kept current.
  • Supports owner relations activities as they relate to radiological assessment of private properties in the vicinity of the Moab Project site.
  • Reviews project documents at DOE’s and the author’s requests, especially those prepared for public distribution.
  • Provide support as requested for administrative purposes and in support of the Quality Management System.
  • Perform other duties as assigned at the discretion of management.
  • This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

 

Job Requirements

Position requires Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field of study.

Minimum of 10(ten) years previous experience in Public Affairs representing government interest.

Extensive Knowledge on Risk Communication and Strategies.

Must possess an excellent command of the English language. 

Position requires the ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and must be able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Demonstrate and apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Possess problem solving skills and the capability to prioritize daily work schedule in keeping with productivity standards.

Have advanced working knowledge of computers, software, and general office equipment to include but not limited to MS Windows and Office Pro.

Current driver’s license; proof of U.S. citizenship; the ability to obtain and retain a security clearance enabling access to various Government facilities and systems.

This position may require the ability to obtain a government clearance. This position may require reviews and test for absence of any illegal drugs along with a background investigation by the Federal government in order to obtain an access authorization prior to employment, and may require subsequent reinvestigations may be required.
