Job Description

The position will be responsible for providing expertise in public affairs activities associated with Environmental Management-Los Alamos (EM-LA) local, State and Federal Stakeholders. 

Write and distribute weekly reports on public affair activities to DOE HQ, briefings to EM-LA stakeholders, coordination of site tours, maintenance of the EM-LA website content, and ensuring consistency of the message to all stakeholders.

Coordinates and tracks required EM-LA documents through approval process with DOE Headquarters Communications and Management offices.

Represent EM-LA as the main point of contact in public affairs interactions with HQ organizations to include EM Office of Communications and DOE Offices of Public Affairs and Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs.

Act as the main point of contact for any media inquiries for the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Project.

Coordinate regularly with the Public Affairs POCs for both NNSA Los Alamos and the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contractor.

Develop and implement EM-LA policies and procedures for public relations.

Maintain favorable public image for DOE EM- LA by communicating programs, accomplishments, and points of view.

Develop communication packages for major pre and post award contract actions to include but not limited to: PCIN packages and press releases.

Evaluate all forms of communications, including communications to Contractor staff, before release to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of message and authorizes release.

Prepare and distribute new releases and fact sheets to media outlets.

Support and communicate directly with senior DOE EM-LA Leadership on daily basis.

Maintain the EM-LA and EM-LA CAB websites and other electronic media including Facebook or other social media sites. Work website redesigns as necessary.

Produce and create photojournalistic images associated with DOE EM-LA projects, activities, and awards. Create media packages representing the EM-LA project for public distribution.

Provide expertise in public affairs activities associated with EM-LA local, State and Federal stakeholders and media.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • 15 years’ experience in public affairs for a government and/or environmental cleanup office.
  • Must have experience with MS Excel, Access, Word.
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work in groups and lead group projects.
  • Must have previous environmental remediation experience at DOE sites.

Federal Government Clearance:

This position may require the ability to obtain a government clearance. This position may require reviews and test for absence of any illegal drugs along with a background investigation by the Federal government in order to obtain an access authorization prior to employment, and may require subsequent reinvestigations may be required.
