Job Description

  • Utilizing experience, education, discretion, and judgement, review Department of Energy technical documents to ensure a high level of quality and readability. Technical documents include environmental remediation reports and plans; regulatory correspondence; environmental, nuclear safety basis, regulatory procedures; and technical presentations. The work needs to conform to Department of Energy writing guides and templates. The individual will work closely with Department of Energy and Contractor staff to ensure accuracy, quality, and consistency of correspondence and technical documents.
  • Work with environmental, safety, quality, public affairs, and management staff to obtain and distill information necessary prepare technical documents, procedures, and presentations. Create technical and administrative training manuals, and maintain environmental and public engagement websites.
  • Contribute to the advancement of ethical and safe operations by providing pre-meeting briefings.
  • Using experience and judgement, support technical document process integration across multiple organizational disciplines.


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field is required.  Work experience may substitute for the education requirement.  Each 2 years of related experience is equivalent to 1 year of college.
  • 10 years of experience writing and editing technical documents.
  • Ability to author or perform reviews on all forms of technical documentation and related materials including grammar and formatting for consistency and coherency.
  • Ability to write and edit technical content and, using judgement and discretion, make complex topics easy to understand.
  • Strong computer and word processing skills including use of Word, Adobe Acrobat, and PowerPoint, in addition to writing, editing, proofreading, and page composition skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects and prioritize accordingly to ensure competing deadlines are met with little to no supervision.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.
  • Able to communicate goals with others and provide constructive feedback so that writing meets Department of Energy guidelines.



  • Experience working in technical fields in Los Alamos.
  • Experience working in environmental management and/or waste management.
  • Additional coursework in desktop publishing, multimedia production, and online documentation software.
  • Graphic design capabilities.
  • Web content development capabilities.

Federal Government Clearance:

This position may require the ability to obtain a government clearance. This position may require reviews and test for absence of any illegal drugs along with a background investigation by the Federal government in order to obtain an access authorization prior to employment, and may require subsequent reinvestigations may be required.
