Job Description


The Certified Health Physicist is responsible for daily oversight and technical support to the US Department of Energy, Portsmouth/Paducah Project Office federal staff. Responsibilities include oversight of the project’s radiation protection program (programmatic requirements and implementation), dosimetry programs, and implementation of best practices and lessons learned during D&D, nuclear operations, and other environmental restoration activities at the Portsmouth site. Other duties include program reviews, surveillances, formal assessments, document reviews, and field observations. 


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science and/or Engineering from an accredited college or university and ten years’ experience.
  • Requires certification by the American Board of Health Physics (CHP).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health physics and radiation protection theory and practice, the measurement and analysis of ionizing radiation and radioactivity, radiation protection standards and emergency procedures.
  • Knowledge of shielding design techniques and dose assessments methodologies, effects of radiation on tissues, nuclear and atomic physics, research with radionuclides, ALARA principles, and experimental techniques are required.
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art instrumental and spectrometric techniques.
  • Familiarity with computer applications in dosimetry, shielding, spectrometry, and database management.
  • Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Exhibit a high degree of professionalism in the production of deliverables and in interactions with fellow employees and client personnel.

  • DOE experience
  • Nuclear facility experience
  • D&D, D&R, S&M project experience

This position may require the ability to obtain a government clearance. This position may require reviews and test for absence of any illegal drugs along with a background investigation by the Federal government in order to obtain an access authorization prior to employment, and may require subsequent reinvestigations may be required.
