Job Description:

Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, this technician provides logistics assistance and support to the field system technicians. Duties include testing equipment upon receipt, stocking, retrieving, staging, and issuing equipment and materials for field operations. Technician is also responsible for receiving retired equipment from the field and assuring its proper disposition through discard, salvage, or recycle. Additional duties include periodic inventory of stock, performing equipment fabrication and field tasks, fork lift operations, and pick-up and deliveries. The technician must have the initiative necessary to work independently to complete assignments with meticulous attention to details.  Technician must be knowledgeable of and comply with LANL safety requirements and guidelines and work within those requirements and guidelines. May be required to augment the procurement staff on a temporary basis. Technician is required to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime as authorized and may perform on-call duties after hours on a rotating basis with other technicians.

Essential Functions:

Performs work safely and securely.
Assists in the receipt testing of electronic assemblies used in the Laboratory security systems to assure effective operations before acceptance.
Assists in fabrication of electronic assemblies to be deployed as part of the Lab’s security systems.
Stocks received items according to the SEC-PSS warehousing protocol, including recording the location of the item.
Retrieves and stages items according to customer requests, staging items in a palletized and segregated way for ease of transfer to the field and assurance of complete delivery of all requested items.
Formally documents the issue of items to assure accurate accounting of the warehouse inventory and assignment of costs to the proper charge code.
Coordinates and assists in the return of retired field equipment and assigns the proper disposition – discard, salvage, or recycle.
Performs primary technician “on-call” duties as assigned by SEC-PSS management to perform corrective maintenance on security and access control systems.

Other Functions:

Interfaces routinely with internal customers, disposal personnel, and their supervisor.
Assists in other logistics activities as necessary

Job Requirements:

This job requires an Associate degree (AA) in electronics or four (4) years equivalent work experience and education in a relevant field. Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Requires a DOE active Q clearance with Human Reliability Program

Knowledge in:

Basic electronic practices and principles
Circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software including applications and programming
Arithmetic, descriptive statistics, and their applications
Structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
Relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions
Relevant Pro2Serve, LANL, and DOE policies/procedures for alarm systems
Protective Force operations, physical security, classified interests, property protection, Quality Assurance, ES&H requirements, procedures, guides, reports, and other directives
Machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
Hazardous materials found in assigned areas of responsibility
Basic Rapid Alarm Security System (BRASS), including Central Alarm Station and Assessment Room Operating procedures
Argus system and component operations, including communication channels
DOE, client, and Pro2Serve compensatory measures, and compensatory measures requirements of Protective Force operations and client facility physical locations and layout
Safety and health regulations, principles, procedures, practices, and processes, including ISSM
Prevailing Collective Bargaining Agreement as it relates to SEC-PSS operations 

Ability to:

Troubleshoot electronics-related problems to determine causes of operating errors and solutions to the issues

Basic technical writing skills
Solder Certification
Fiber-optics experience
Operation of a forklift, bucket truck, and Genie articulating boom
Entry-level computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and  Visio

This position may require the ability to obtain a government clearance. This position may require reviews and tests for absence of any illegal drugs, along with a background investigation by the federal government to obtain an access authorization prior to employment and may require subsequent re-investigations.
