Job Description

Works with minimal supervision to apply routine and non-routine engineering principles to perform duties.  Performs non-routine engineering duties regularly and recognizes unusual situations where standard procedures are not appropriate and performs more sophisticated and complicated designs and calculations.  Directs work efforts of other engineers or may direct small to mid-size engineering projects.

Typical Activities

  • Assist in preparing discipline specific budgets, minimal project management, assist in proposal preparation.
  • Typical Civil projects may include site planning, grading & drainage, stormwater management, and utilities design. Could include design and analysis of drainage structures, detention/retention ponds, traffic design, slope stability, site selection, site development and grading, parking lot design, underground utility routing, road signage.
  • Preparing associated calculations and specifications for the projects.
  • Typical Geotechnical projects may include geotechnical studies, reports and some field work to oversee geotechnical drilling or other functions. 

Other Essential Duties:

  • Applies standard and complex Engineering principles to complete tasks.  Exhibits excellent working knowledge of applicable engineering codes and standards.  Works within prescribed budgets and schedules for self and/or projects and may establish budgets and schedules.
  • Function as a Group Leader or Project Manager as needed for routine assignments.
  • Recommends, approves, and makes modifications, design changes, etc. as needed within defined parameters.
  • Prepares and coordinates Engineering reports, studies, calculations, etc. as required.  May present reports, studies, etc. at meetings, conferences, etc.
  • Lead conferences/meetings with client to establish project objectives and resolve all levels of design problems.
  • Responsible for collection of field information and resolving field problems.
  • Directs work efforts of other Engineers, Architects, Designers and Drafters.
  • Demonstrates ability to get along with coworkers, customers and visitors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Job Requirements

Position requires Bachelor Degree in an accepted engineering discipline and typically requires 8+ years of previous engineering experience.

Professional Engineer Registration required.

Possess working knowledge of computers and software such as, Microsoft Office Suite and software used for specific technical applications within the department including Drafting software (AutoCad and/or Microstation)

Have good level of verbal and written communication skills.

Federal Government Clearance:

This position may require the ability to obtain a government clearance. This position may require reviews and test for absence of any illegal drugs along with a background investigation by the Federal government in order to obtain an access authorization prior to employment, and may require subsequent reinvestigations may be required.
