We have an opening for a Curriculum Developer/Technical Writer to support the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory’s wide-ranging research and skilled researchers. The experienced technical writer and professional instructional designer will support the Argus Physical Security Program’s Documentation and Training team. The candidate will be responsible for writing, editing and completing a variety of complex project documentationSelected candidate will be expected to solve problems of varied scope and complexity associated with specific editorial projects.


Job Description

Interpret complex technical information and translate into various forms of easily understandable communications.

Provide comprehensive editing/writing services for large, complex projects, frequently involving multiple media.

Work with subject matter experts and team members to complete role and task-based learning deliverables using ADDIE methodology.

Proofread and edit documents and training materials from other members of the Argus Documentation and Training team.

Contribute to strategic discussions for designing current and future Argus curricula.

Develop and implement project plans and schedules for moderately complex projects; make and fulfill commitments on cost, schedule, and quality for communication products, lead ad·hoc planning and status meetings.

Perform other duties as assigned


Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in English, communications, journalism, or instructional design, or the equivalent combination of education and experience in the area of technical communication.

Experience using effective editing/writing techniques for a variety of media including comprehensive knowledge of technical language, usage, and style conventions (editing, grammar, and proofreading skills).

Advanced knowledge of and experience using style conventions, professional principles, and technical communication practices and standards

Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe software tools and understanding of database concepts and the ability to learn new software quickly.

Experience leading production and technical writing assignments

Proven ability to work both independently and within a team environment to effectively meet tight deadlines while managing competing priorities.

Effective organizational skills applying attention to detail with accuracy and follow through.

Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills necessary to identify and make strategic recommendations at both a project and curriculum level.

Demonstrated excellent customer service skills, advanced written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to be self-motivated and flexible.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” Clearance.


Desired Qualifications

Knowledge and understanding of Physical Security and the Laboratory’s policies and procedures.

Advanced computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office, Camtasia, Articulate Storyline, and Linux.

Experience with Atlassian software (Confluence, JIRA).

Demonstrated editing/writing experience in hardware, software, or technical areas.

Experience training or teaching others.
